Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor has revealed that his original costume from the 1987 science-fiction film Mr. India still fits him after 39 years. The actor recently wore the iconic outfit, including its shirt, trousers and jacket, during a special episode of the television programme India’s Top 1%: The Anil Kapoor Show.
Kapoor said he had preserved the costume since filming the movie. When the programme’s team expressed interest in featuring the original outfit, he confirmed that it was still in his possession.
The actor was pleasantly surprised that all three pieces continued to fit him. He also revealed that he purchased the film’s famous jacket from Mumbai’s Chor Bazaar, a market known for its antiques and second-hand goods.
Kapoor added that he has maintained long hair similar to the hairstyle he sported during the film, helping him recreate the look associated with his memorable character.

Anil Kapoor Reflects on the Message of Mr. India
During the special episode, Kapoor highlighted the programme’s focus on people who serve society through their work and contributions. He said anyone could become a “Mr. India” by helping others and fulfilling their responsibilities without expecting recognition or rewards.
Directed by Shekhar Kapur, Mr. India was released in 1987 and featured Anil Kapoor alongside Sridevi and Amrish Puri. The film follows Arun Verma, a kind-hearted man who gains the ability to become invisible through a special device.
The movie became a memorable part of Indian cinema, thanks to its science-fiction storyline, popular songs and distinctive characters. Amrish Puri’s portrayal of Mogambo, particularly the dialogue “Mogambo Khush Hua,” remains one of the film’s most recognisable elements.
Kapoor’s decision to wear his original costume decades after the film’s release has brought renewed attention to a movie that continues to hold a special place in Bollywood history.
